Climate and Soil


The best suited environment for cardamom cultivation is the evergreen forests of Western Ghats. It grows at an elevation ranging between 600 and 1200 meters above MSL. Generally, in cardamom growing areas, the annual rainfall ranges between 1500 to 4000 mm and the temperature ranges between 10°C to 35°C. As per sample analysis, loamy soils rich in organic matter, nitrogen, medium level phosphorous, and potassium containing acidic attributes with pH from 4.2 to 6.8 are found conducive for cardamom productivity.
